SheiFunmi Interviews Lami Phillips

The long awaited interview with one of the top Nigerian R’n'B Musicians LAMI PHILLIPS is finally here. Sheifunmi talks to Lami and gets in on her, asking why we should buy her album INTUITION :

- Hey Lami, how are you?

I’m fab thanks!

- Tell us about Lami Philips?

Depends on what u want to know….

- What motivated you to music? how did the journey all start?

I was born to do this..that’s my motivation, I’ve been at it proffessionally for 13yrs outside Nigeria..sang in choirs,arenas,studios..universities..
- Congratulations on your album “Intution” What’s one of your
favourite tracks on the album and why?

That’s a difficult question depends on how I’m feeling..but for the sake of this interview I will say “always” cos its perfect!

- Did you come by any challenge while starting off professionally as a Singer?

Ofcourse! But every challenge was a blessing cos the way you deal with challenges defines your perception of greatness!

- We’re in a very different climate in the industry. How important would you say sales are to you, bearing in mind both creative and the business side of it?

I think distribution and promotion define sales. That being said what’s important to me is that people have access to my music …if you make good music and you are diligent the rest will follow!

Who can we expect in the way of collaborations and Producers?

Well, eldee,Mi,cabasa,OJB,Ikon, jeremiah Gyang all worked with me on my album. At the moment I’m in the studio with a number of great minds..feeling a bit like Keri Hilson(laughs)!I can’t give names now cos its on the hush hush!

- We hear about some of the odd things artists put in their contract riders, so what’s the one thing you really need in your backstage area?

ORDER!(Just Joking!) But its always nice when a show is properly organised..helps you find your center before getting on stage.

- If there is one thing you would do to help your community, what will it be?

A center for abandoned children and troubled youth.

- Who is the rudest celebrity that you have encountered?

- What line of profession would you have been in, if not media?

I’d work with kids..I already do!

- Give us 3 reasons why in this recession we should buy “Intution”?

Its surprisingly good music coming outta Nigeria(neo-soul,hiphop,r n b all meshed on one fab album) with awesome reviews. Its 150 naira in Lagos and less than $5 outside. Lastly you don’t want to be that person who caught onto it at the last hour cos ill be on to the next album.. *laughs*

Right now, i’ll give you names and you tell me the first thing that comes to your mind:

- Nigeria ?

Great Nation in need of a revolution

- Sasha Alabi ?

Female Rapper…I fondly call her Satchett.

- Twitter ?

Erm…social networking

- WORDS OF WISDOM TO PEOPLE OUT THERE, LOOKING UP TO YOU.

One Word: LIVE
