SheiFunmi Interviews Jason Barmore

The camera loves 23 year old model Jason Barmore. This beautiful specimen of a man comes to us from Los Angeles, California and is represented by Sirena Models. You may have seen him grace the pages of Urban Mainstream Magazine and Life Styles and Luxury Magazine. Sheifunmi had the opportunity to meet with Jason Barmore and it was fun interviewing him. Check it out;

- TELL US WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE A MODEL
Being a model is not as easy as it my look to some. It’s so much more than standing in front of a camera and having someone snap a picture of you, it’s a WHOLE lifestyle starting with the way you take care of your body and skin all the way down to the clothes that you wear every time you step out of the house. You are constantly judged on your appearance and personality every single time you step out of the house.

- WHO IS JASON BARMORE

Jason Barmore is a little kid from Lynwood/Compton California who has always dreamed BIG. No matter what he does or how hard it may be to get what he wants Jason makes sure to go after it no matter what may be trying to stand in his way. Whatever Jason Barmore wants Jason Barmore gets.

- YOU STARTED OFF AS A CHOREOGRAPHER AND A DANCER, WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO MODELING?

Modeling is something that I’ve always to get into however growing up I didn’t know much about it. I always thought male models had to be 6’3 and up full of muscle. As I started learning more about the industry i saw that male models come in all sizes depending what type of modeling you’re doing. Once I got my confidence together I started building my portfolio and from there I took it into an agency and was signed on the spot.

- WHAT MODELING AGENCY ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING WITH?

Im currently signed to Sirena Models and Mode Models.

- JOBS DONE IN RELATIONS TO MODELING

I’ve appeared in editorials, music videos and runways shows, My most recent booking was for the Nicholas Clements-Lindsey (NCL Couture) SS 2010 runway show during LA Fashion Week (what an AMAZING experience).

- DO YOU PREFER PHOTOGRAPHY MODELING TO RUNWAY?
I love both because they are completely different. With photography if you don’t like something or an idea just isn’t working you can just do it over and over until you get it right, with runway you only have one chance and one chance only to get it right and the whole world is watching you. I always get this strange rush when i do runway, its feels like a drug, I’m actually a lot more nervous during a photo shoot then when on a runway in front of people.

- WHAT IS IT THAT YOU DON’T LIKE ABOUT YOUR PROFESSION?
I don’t like the fact that its not a great demand for African American male models. There is usually less then a hand full of us in the in each agency but then again that makes me want to work even harder for the job.

- WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE MODEL ICON

I would say Grace is my model icon, anytime you can put on a garbage bag and a cone hat and still make it look runway ready then you are the SHIT!

- DESCRIBE YOUR PASSION FOR FASHION?
When you look good you feel good, I’ve always loved to try new things and inspire others. With fashion you have so much to choose from everyday. When I wake up the first thing on my mind is what am i going to wear to day and how will it make me feel.

- WHAT PROJECT ARE YOU WORKING ON AS OF NOW?
I just wrapped up LA fashion now its time to get prepared for NYC fashion week which is just around the corner. Also without giving to much away lets just say I will be going back to my roots.

- WHAT IS THE MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT, SINCE YOU STARTED MODELING?

I was on the set one day which was actually a underwear shoot and the photographer kept calling me Pinocchio. I didn’t really pay any attention to what he was saying but when i asked him why was he calling me that he told me fix my underwear.

- GIRLS ARE CRAZY ABOUT MODELS, ESPECIALLY THE SEXY ONES, LIKE YOU. HOW DO YOU HANDLE YOUR FEMALE FANS?
I LOVE MY FEMALE FANS! If only you could see some of the twitpics they send me lol Anyone that can appreciate all that hard work I put into my work I have much love for them, without people like that i probably wouldn’t have accomplished all the blessings that have come my way so far.

- HAVE YOU EVER BEEN MISTAKEN FOR WHAT YOU ARE NOT?
I’m not really sure. If so, no one has ever mentioned it to me. I hope that if someone had a question or something that they wanted to know about me that they would just ask. I’m a true believer that straight talk makes for straight understanding,

- IN CONCLUSION, WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE TO UPCOMING MODELS?

To all the up coming models i would say to never ever left any one discourage you from doing what you want to do. Never leave your future in the hands of someone else. This business is pretty cut throat but you must ALWAYS keep going. Don’t be so hard on yourself and remember that 85% of the time you will be told no and have doors closed in your face but as long as you have the drive in you to keep going, trust me you will make it.
